FAQ
Please find below the most commonly asked questions. If you have any further questions, feel free to give us a call.
-
Do I need a referral? No, you do not need a referral from your GP.
-
How often do I need to do a skin cancer check?Every person is different with their skin cancer risk and need for skin checks. Generally, a 12 monthly skin cancer check is recommended, however, some high risk people may require more frequent skin cancer checks - e.g. 3 monthly.
-
Do you do single mole checks instead of a full body skin cancer check? Each consultation is allocated 15 minutes for the skin cancer check. It is up to you what you would like checked, but there are no discounts available if only a single spot is checked. We always recommend doing a full body skin cancer check because we quite often find a skin cancer in an area that isn't the spot people are worried about in the first place.

What does a skin cancer check involve?During your skin cancer check, you will be required to undress to your underwear so your doctor can examine your skin. Jason will use a device called a dermatoscope, which is similar to a magnifying glass. It is painless, and will allow more accurate diagnosis of your spots. If a suspicious spot is identified, Jason may do a biopsy, which is a sample of the skin, that is sent to a laboratory for testing and confirmation of diagnosis. Occasionally, he may decide to photographically monitor your spot in instead. Jason will usually call you with your results or organise a further appointment to discuss appropriate treatment.
